Sometimes, the issues in modern software weigh so much that we miss the good old days when components were written by skilled developers, not bloated, had (objectively) fewer bugs, and were non-enshittified.
But rekindling old software usually reasons our nostalgia away soon enough. The rediscovery of Unix v4 reminds us that in the (real) good old days, one needed good tape and good luck.
All things considered, it may be good riddance.
